Kivulini follows an integrated Montessori and Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). In practice, this means Montessori’s child-led, hands-on discovery approach runs alongside the structure, learning areas and national assessments (KPSEA, KJSEA) of Kenya’s official CBC.
Kivulini admits learners from Crèche (11 months – 3 years) right through to Junior School, Grade 9 — Early Years covers Reception–PP2, Lower School Grade 1–3, and Upper School Grade 4–6 along the way to Junior School.
Kivulini sits on Kirangari–Gikuni Road, off Gitaru–Ndenderu Road, in Lower Kabete, Kabete Sub-County, Kiambu County — close to the Nairobi boundary, and serves families from both.
Kivulini is a day school. The gate opens at 6:45 AM, learners are expected by 7:30 AM Monday–Friday, and lessons end at 3:00 PM.

Kivulini’s journey runs from Crèche to Junior School (Grade 9). In Junior School we already lay the groundwork — a well-equipped science lab, learner-centred 5E teaching, and exploration of the three national pathways (STEM, Social Sciences, Arts & Sports Science) — so families are well prepared for the Grade 9 KJSEA assessment and the move into Senior School.
In the 2025 national KPSEA assessment, 90% of Kivulini learners were rated Exceeding Expectations or Meeting Expectations.

CBC is Kenya’s national curriculum, introduced by the Ministry of Education and developed by the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD). It assesses learners continuously — through classroom observation, oral work, written work and projects — rather than through one final exam, and is built around developing practical competencies, not just content recall.
8-4-4 centred on one high-stakes national exam per level. CBC spreads assessment across the whole term and school year, values practical and creative competencies as much as academic ones, and routes learners at Grade 10 into one of three equal pathways: STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports.
Montessori is a child-led teaching approach that lets learners choose activities within a prepared environment, working at their own pace with hands-on materials. At Kivulini, it shapes how younger learners explore and discover, while CBC provides the national learning outcomes and assessments every learner is ultimately measured against.
